Senior Mechatronics Engineer (27160)

Cambridge (south)
to £65,000 DoE plus benefits

Mechatronic automation for new scientific applications

This new venture is drawing on years of expertise in mechatronic systems and scientific instruments to develop new laboratory mechatronic systems including robotic components. It will suit a senior mechatronic or electromechanical engineer with relevant prior experience.

These new systems combine electronics, mechanical and software technologies in a unique scalable form factor ideally suited to laboratory use. Design scale is for bench-top rather than large industrial or smaller miniaturised systems.

You will bring:

  • A hands-on background across electronics and mechanical systems, used in combination. Embedded software skills are a plus. Holistic design for sensor packages, servo/stepper motors and their control, environmental considerations and accommodating power and form constraints is relevant.
  • Prior work on a range of electro-mechanical systems, taking a systemic view and considering relevant safety and quality standards, ideally in a cross-discipline context.
  • Relevant skills include a broad combination of EDA (e.g. Altium) and CAD (e.g. SolidWorks) design, component and board prototyping, use of bench tools and instruments, machining, assembly, hands-on testing, iteration, design for manufacture (DfM), PLM considerations and quality.
  • Ideally, prior experience developing devices or instruments for use in a sterile or clinical environment; though industrial experience may be relevant depending on scale and project types.

You’ll be joining a rapidly growing new venture, part of a well-supported team. As you’ll work cross-discipline, sharing and disseminating ideas is encouraged. Benefits are particularly good including a strong pension and healthcare.
