Back end development for a successful Cambridge start-up

This role would suit an accomplished developer with excellent coding skills in C. Our client is an ambitious early-stage start-up and already a commercial success. Their hands-to-the-pump ethos would suit a C developer who enjoys getting on with creating quality software in a friendly and collaborative environment whilst minimising the administrative distractions that can come with longer-established companies. Their product is high performance software which powers industry-leading home entertainment products, and they are now looking to add new features and capabilities.

You would initially be developing the back end code that powers their GUI and interfaces with the hardware, but there is opportunity to get involved with all aspects of the software stack from Linux kernel through to graphics and networking protocols. This is a role for a technology enthusiast who wants to gain a broad skillset whilst making a big impact from day one.

An excellent technical degree will help, but the key to success here is that you can show a strong and sustained interest in technology and software development. You will also need solid commercial experience, or substantial home projects or contributions to open-source projects.

You will need:

  • Aptitude with scripting languages such as Python, or Lua
  • Demonstrably strong coding skills with C
  • Solid understanding of Linux, including the command line
  • Web development with JavaScript and AJAX, Git version control, and REST and HTTP are advantageous but not essential.

Irrespective of your level of experience, you would need to be able to share samples of your coding (for instance via GitHub or a zipped archive).

Our client is located in a central location conveniently close to Cambridge city centre. As a recent start-up they are unable to offer sponsorship, so you will need full right to work in the UK without restriction or time limit.
