Inventive Physicist / Engineer (26448)
Open to recent graduates, PhDs and experienced engineers and consultants. With offices in Cambridge and London, also offering remote working, this inventive team of engineers and scientists work for top tier product companies, developing patentable product ideas both revolutionary and evolutionary. Their clients take it from there, complete the engineering design process and take these products to market.
This role would suit a technologist with a broad engineering background, encompassing physics/electronics, interested in a consultative and collaborative full time permanent role.
You may have commercial experience, either in engineering consultancy or in a design or engineering role in and around applied physics / electronics. If not, you'll have an appreciation of such commercial applications through projects or internships.
You will also have:
- A love of technology, even in everyday gadgets. You have intellectual curiosity, and like to take things apart. You'll have spare time engineering/science projects, which your CV describes.
- A good education, broadly studying engineering, applied physics, electronics and/or product-focused sciences to bachelor's or PhD level.
- A sound and intuitive grasp of the fundamentals of electronics (which may come from physics).
- A liking for communication with technical people. You can judge when the listener wants a high-level overview, and when they want to start talking in technical detail.
You will be keen to apply these qualities to the collaborative creation of new, patentable inventions. With practice you'll be able to identify the "inventive step" which makes ideas patentable.
This is a chance for a unique and intellectually rewarding full time role, working with smart colleagues, inventing together. Business travel is likely. If close to Cambridge or London, up to 50% home working each week is possible. From elsewhere in the UK, remote working is possible for the right candidate, though you should expect to travel to visit clients and colleagues from time to time.
