Creating mathematical tools to model and mitigate climate risk

This successful risk modelling start-up have a growing list of clients who use their tools to provide the insights needed to help them mitigate climate risks and reduce their ecological footprint. If you are keen to apply your modelling skills to make a positive difference to the world, then this could be the role for you!

Joining a team of risk researchers, you would draw upon a range of data science techniques to model the impact of extreme weather events or long-term climatic trends for businesses across a diverse array of sectors. Your output will be algorithms and mathematical tools for integration into the company’s modelling framework software – your expertise will support your software engineering peers in this work.
Your conclusions will help companies adapt to a changing environment and make adjustments that will help them reduce their own impact on the natural world.

You will need:

  • A very strong academic background, with Master’s degree or preferably PhD in a relevant numerate discipline from a leading university backed up by top grades at A level (or equivalent).
  • A solid understanding of mathematical modelling techniques with expertise including subjects such as probability theory, statistics, Bayesian analysis, and visualisation techniques to make sense of complex data.
  • Demonstrably good coding skills in Python (similar languages may be considered).

Please note that the company are unable to offer sponsorship, so you must have full existing right to live and work in the UK without time limit or restriction.
