Theoretical Physicist (26481)
Within this small consultancy, the Theoretical Physicist will play a pivotal role in the technical work of the company, contributing to cutting edge R&D projects and helping form the nucleus of a multidisciplinary team. Projects are focused within the defence and security sectors; hence candidates must be eligible for UK security clearance.
The company’s innovative projects provide the opportunity to use fundamental physics knowledge to contribute to intelligent algorithm development for bespoke applications. Many projects have an artificial intelligence and machine learning aspect, creating autonomous systems that use ML techniques on real-world data acquired from sensors developed by colleagues in electronics and software engineering.
Working in a consultancy, it is crucial to communicate well with your colleagues, and to display the ability to convey complex ideas to a range of audiences.
You will have a strong first degree in Physics from a highly-ranked world-class university; you may well have a PhD too. Real-world application experience would be of interest, but the prime requirement is for a thorough theoretical grounding.
You should also have a good understanding of some of these technical areas:
- Bayesian Analysis and Inference
- Machine Learning
- Pattern Recognition
- Classification and Data Fusion
- Python
- ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, scikit-learn, pandas
