Line management and project leadership for cutting-edge electromagnetic technology

This next-generation R&D technology company are working on unique projects based on high voltage, short pulse electromagnetics. Their Design Team use magnetohydrodynamic codes and machine learning to develop novel load concepts for these pulses; and are keen to recruit a Lead Hydrodynamic Scientist to direct projects. Key responsibilities will include contributions to strategic vision; line management of a small team; development of new hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic codes using machine-learning based optimisation.

Requirements:

  • Degree in physics or electronics (and ideally a PhD).
  • Leadership experience on pulsed power, hydrodynamic codes or similar. This should include successful delivery of R&D projects. Further experience with machine learning based optimisation would be desirable.
  • Experience with Python (or similar tools) for analysis. Additional experience with C++ or Fortran would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of software engineering practices.

Excellent communication skills and a keen interest in problem-solving are expected as projects are complicated and usually there are multiple stakeholders involved. Therefore, the ability to collaborate, coordinate and lead projects is important.
